Nimrods plot
The three members of an amateur band want nothing more than to meet Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. They force themselves to deliver a demo to their beloved idols, hoping for some recognition, but instead, they get a rare opportunity: opening for Green Day at their New Year's concert. Or so they think. What they don't know is that the gig is actually a prank one of their brothers is playing on them. Nevertheless, the naively optimistic trio leaves Kansas for California, with big dreams of sharing the stage with their heroes.

Three teenagers who form the punk band Analog Dogs embark on a road trip to Los Angeles, believing they will get to perform as the opening act for the band Green Day.
The road trip results in a decent film that, however, offers nothing original. If you have seen a few road movie comedies, you can predict the plot in broad strokes, and sometimes even quite specifically. Along the way, bad luck, arguments, banter, and bizarre encounters follow one another in rapid succession. Romance is not lacking either, and despite all the adversity, the ending is naturally happy. Viewers hoping for a story that is not just another variation of a coming-of-age road trip will be disappointed.
Although the band Green Day is the film's producer, had creative input, and also actively participates in the film, Nimrod is not a classic fan movie. The band's participation is modest. Only at the end of the film does the band feature extensively during a live performance. I don't know the band very well, but I was able to appreciate the music. The same applied to the general film score, which, in addition to Green Day's work, contains other heavy punk tracks by bands unknown to me.
Nimrods is a road movie with a story that doesn't skip a single genre element. An enjoyable but unsurprising story carried by a fine trio of actors. Despite the punk undertone, the film is a bit on the tame side. I would have preferred it sharper, viciouser, and more anarchistic.
