Little Miss Marker plot

"A wildly romantic comedy about a cookie, a bookie, and the kid they bet their hearts on."

United States, 1930s. He is a bookmaker who lends a man money with his daughter as collateral (marker). However, the man loses and does not come back so that the bookmaker is saddled with the little lady. A childhood friend of his, now a criminal, forces him into a deal and has a female partner who is willing to help babysit the little one.
