Judith Farrow (Julie Andrews) works for the British Embassy and has just closed a case for a married man. She is emotionally very involved in the case and decides to take a vacation to the island of Barbados. There she meets the gentle and secretive Russian Feodor Sverdlov (Omar Sharif). Although the two fall in love, Judith is hesitant to start a new relationship.
