What a lackluster and also predictable comedy (actually there is little to laugh about) in which Annie Girardot does her utmost to play her role as an introverted woman. Our Annie, however, has so much determination in her eyes...and on her tongue that she can hardly pass as a timid appearance.

Towards the end it gets a bit more profound and sensitive and both main actors definitely prove their dramatic talent.

The old spinster.

The film has the pace of the holidays in a different time. Four weeks in the same place, and 8 days waiting for your car to be repaired. Pretty long, even if it's really only 6 by my count. Well, somewhere around there I had to wait three days for a flat tire to be replaced a few years ago, so apparently it's not that long ago. And all things considered, it doesn't take that long from the unsavory herring until Noiret is in a good book at Girardot, or how to say. Perhaps not their best film of either, and the last fifteen minutes is by far the best. Well, apart from breakfast in bed from the lovely Keller then. Some nice bit parts - Michael Lonsdale, as the half-crazy pastor with his crazy bitch - and that's Edith Scob. Maria Scheider as half of the two burnt girls - and yes, this movie is from the same year as her most infamous role. Then this is a completely different film, far from the urge to shock. Perhaps nicer viewing food, but also forgotten a lot faster.
