Kika plot
Kika is a naive, optimistic beautician. Her profession and character come in handy, because her friend Ramon, with whom she lives, is a regularly sinking emotional person. Pablo is a porn star, he is in prison for rape, but escapes and goes into hiding with Kika. He indulges his sexual desires on her, which happens to be videotaped by a voyeur. And the tape ends up in the hands of a sewer journalist.

Fantast Almodóvar puts down another very special film here.
Not on the level of "Atame", "Hable con ella", "Volver", "La Piel que habito" and others, but still visually present, with the classic elements such as feminism (again, the women are still dominant) and eroticism (that was obvious).
I believe that Almodóvar is a filmmaker who cares nothing about the opinion of the viewer. Whether he finds it shocking, kitsch or soapy, Almodóvar unabashedly expresses his vision of everything and anything.
A pack of satirical humour, surprising twists and variations in the plot and excellent actors who often return in his films : do not be disappointed in this "Kika".

My tenth Almodovar meanwhile. It is often a hit or miss, which is also apparent from my average score, which is not very pronounced. This KiKa was a miss for me, even the weakest Almodovar I've ever experienced. At times even an irritating film with annoying characters and an annoying undertone as a film that just didn't want to get going for me.
Humorous and absurd, well, I can get in, but the annoyances were still closer to me. The main scene about the rape eg. I couldn't do much with that. Not funny, not serious, not light-hearted, anything except boredom. The characters didn't appeal to me either.
Was there nothing positive to say at all? Little, but respect for Almodovar that he always tries to maintain his own style and vision, whether that clashes with the viewer or not.

For me it is the sixteenth Almodovar and for me it is also a minor Almodovar and I wonder if he was perhaps in a transitional phase between the "old" Almodovar with this film and something like The Flower of My Secret (also not a favorite). and his later highly successful melodramas. The humor doesn't work that well for me here and the dramatic content also leaves something to be desired. The film mainly feels like an imperfect Almodovarian near-parody of Hitchcock, but without it becoming exciting. It's not really bad but in my top 16 this is definitely bottom 5.
