Audrey Hepburn was a style icon, especially thanks to her appearance in Givenchy's little black dress, paired with pearls and a tiara. In the opening scene she does window shopping and the title is literally portrayed. Apparently this caused problems with the crowd and traffic. In addition, the slim film star would not actually eat puff pastry gingerbread.

Holly Golightly appears to have a glamorous lifestyle at first glance, but it soon becomes apparent that she lives in a small, cluttered apartment, hiding her past and her true identity. Truman Capote, who wrote the novella, based it on the model Dorian Leigh, whom he actually entered via the fire escape. She, too, lied about her past and her true identity, and Capote nicknamed her Happy-Go-Lucky. Paul Varjak, who resembles Capote, slowly unravels the truth about Holly. The two freeloaders (two drifters) find each other and experience adventurous moments together. In the novella they split up, but in Hollywood they still had to find a happy ending.

There are nice secondary roles for Martin Balsam and Patricia Neal, the American wife of Roald Dahl. One minus is Mickey Rooney as a stereotypical Asian, although it was a good idea to give Holly annoying upstairs and downstairs neighbors to show how New Yorkers live like pegs in a barrel. The nameless cat symbolizes Holly's benign core. When she throws that out of the cab, she throws away her self-esteem.

The jazzy music of Henry Mancini fits perfectly with the metropolitan lifestyle: the gentle Moon River and the lively male choir. This remains a delightful game of reality and daydreaming.

Pretty okay.

Didn't expect much from it beforehand, I knew Edwards from the annoying Panther films, Hepburn was never really able to convince me. Fortunately, I found it a lot more fun than expected. Not exactly the masterpiece for which it is regarded, of course, but a decent film.

Especially the chemistry between Hepburn and Peppard is good. Both are not the most fun or nicest characters, but they both intrigue and when they are together something is brewing. Furthermore, a few fun scenes, such as the party, stealing the masks or engraving the ring.

It's a shame that the ending has to be a lot less airy and that a lot of hair still needs to be added before the expected ending is pulled out of the closet. Could easily have been fifteen minutes shorter and the feeling afterwards would have been even more positive.

And Mickey Rooney ... holy shit

2.5*

Watched the third time, it remains a very atmospheric and colorful film that looks excellent on blu-ray and a 70-inch screen! This can also be said about Audrey

George Peppard was apparently not the official choice for his role, but the chemistry with Audrey Hepburn does feel pure and convincing.

A rather present role for Hepburn, but in my opinion excellently portrayed and the original choice (Monroe) probably couldn't have done it any better. This is still a great film, therefore an increase from 3.5 to a well deserved 4!
