Delicious.

And also unexpectedly, because this kind of classics almost only disappoints me these days. To be suddenly overwhelmed by an incredibly cute, entertaining and heartwarming film is a relief. It is still possible, and The Graduate is the lucky one.

In the beginning I had to get used to the role of Hoffman who clearly does not play his best but nevertheless iconic role. He is played out by both Ross and Bancroft, who together actually make much better characters. None of them are thoroughly explored, but that's not the goal of the film, which focuses mainly on romance and comedy.

It is special that drama is also indicated as a genre, because The Graduate must be one of the lightest films I have seen. Both the editing and the editing contribute to this, Nichols has his film well under control and ensures that it is not a minute too long or too short. Nothing is skipped and almost every scene has a certain and effective charm.

I found it very interesting to follow how the film was developed and how the relationships developed between Hoffman and the two Robinsons. What further lifts the film to a higher level are the incredibly sharp dialogues that make certain scenes wonderful to get through. Conversations draw you to the movie and really grab you. Furthermore, unnecessary slowness is avoided and the film remains smooth throughout its duration.

Very cute movie, probably going into my favorites as well. Very light-hearted and fast-paced film that lets you empathize with the characters. The film feels very dense and recognizable, and yet so impossible. Sometimes a pity about some wooden acting and that many characters are suddenly made unsympathetic towards the end I also thought it was a somewhat misplaced choice. Otherwise an iconic and delightful film. Deserves the classic status rightly.

This is still a very nice film, which stands out mainly visually where it becomes a summary of shots, sometimes also where the form follows the content. For example at that party at the beginning where Benjamin feels cramped between all those people. The camera close to him supports that feeling. Then he escapes upstairs and the camera stays behind, so that the space he then gets and experiences is also felt by the viewer. Or that shot where Mrs. Robinson suddenly becomes very small as the camera zooms out. Or that shot of Ben under the sexual leg of Mrs. Robinson by (how small he feels there). Etcetera. The film is full of those kinds of great moments and shots and pieces of editing (that diving on the air mattress in the pool!), which is a real pleasure for a film lover. And in terms of content, the film also manages to portray a good picture of the open-minded youth towards adults who have already left all that behind and who fully go along with society and have denied themselves. Furthermore, a beautiful time frame, wonderful music, strong playing, a nice tempo and an hour and a half of simply great entertainment. 4.5*.
