Although this film is considered an absolute classic (named the funniest American comedy of all time by the American Film Institute in 2000), I never fell for it. A matter of personal taste: with Monroe I have never been able to see beyond the sex appeal, Curtis is meaningless and Lemmon an annoying and unfunny actor. In recent years, however, I've looked at all of them with new eyes, as it were: Monroe thanks to her great role in The seven year itch, Curtis via The persuaders, and Lemmon through fantastic roles. in The apartment and Days of wine and roses, which gave me new appreciation for all three. And because in recent years I have also come to feel more and more related to the films, the style and the theme of Billy Wilder, I have once again put Some like it hot in the player, and as could be predicted, I liked it considerably better now: magnificent interpretations, perfect exchanges of funny one-liners, an irresistible Monroe, a fast pace and above all an excellent and traditionally crafted script that finds just the right balance between all those elements. Hats off to all the mentioned (and unnamed, of course, like millionaire Joe E. Brown and fellow screenwriter IAL Diamond).

And about Monroe, there's a scene where she's leaning out of her couch, and it's incomprehensible that the amount of cleavage she shows along with it passed movie screening in 1959 — even in our bold twenty-first. century it is still a ravishing sight. I often think of Cybill Shepherd's beautiful words about Monroe: "She had curves in places most other women don't even have places."

“Story of my life. I always get the fuzzy end of the lollipop.”

Nice classic that impresses especially in the first part. The part in the train is legendary and is full of comical situations and sharp dialogues. The trio Curtis, Lemmon and Monroe do an excellent job, although I started to find Lemmon a bit annoying at a certain point.

The story has a lot of potential that is not fully exploited. Especially the second part in Florida sometimes feels very long-winded and monotonous. Fortunately, the beautiful Marilyn Monroe manages to hold the attention. The ending is fantastic and above all hilarious. The scenes with the gangsters aren't really exciting, but I don't think that was the intention either. They sure are funny. I'm glad I saw Some Like It Hot, because it's a funny classic and also an ode to icon Marilyn Monroe.

This is indeed a very nice movie from the 50's. The duo Curtis and Lemon have a good chemistry and Marilyn Monroe is sensitive, vulnerable but also sensual and daring at the same time. Billy Wilder has made some cool films, among which I especially like The Fortune Cookie (1966) and The Seven Year Itch (1955) - also with Marilyn - the best.
