Definitely an interesting movie. A look into the (experience) world of an actor cast in a special form, but for that reason quite fascinating. The idea to have a former Batman actor play the lead role is of course already a strong one, also because it is certainly not at the expense of the acting, on the contrary. A strong lead role, but the other roles are also played well. Always nice to see Norton again, who certainly shines here too. Perhaps the strong dialogues also help, but nevertheless very nice.

Even more interesting is the way the protagonist appears to have a second personality in the form of his superhero character, as it shows the dual nature of the main character, who, to everyone's dismay, is identified with his superhero character, but actually makes himself there too. guilty of. And it's also interesting to see how the world of Hollywood can rub shoulders with the theater world.

Cinematically, I didn't see it coming that they would do it all in one take (or at least edit and edit it in such a way that it seems like everything was taken in one take). I really appreciate these kinds of things. The comparison with Irréversible is obvious, another film in which the same is done. And it felt a bit more natural there, also because the way in which filming is done there adapts to the nature of the scenes. In this film, on the other hand, it's all a bit more of the same and then at a certain point it feels a bit more like a trick. Nevertheless, it is nice that the director dares to experiment and also tries to make it something interesting on the visual level.

In short, a film that is interesting on several levels. Maybe not perfect everywhere, but the film is pretty all round and above average and all categories. 4*.

Meh.

A film with many faces. After fifteen minutes I managed to roll into it reasonably well, but the last half hour did not appeal to me. Birdman is busy, chaotic and nervous. The drumming in the background should give the film some momentum and pace, but that was a bad choice as far as I'm concerned.

Visually, the film is certainly pleasant to watch in terms of color use. The next camera is close to the skin of the main characters, who are usually well played. Michael Keaton stands out. Emma Stone is the only one who doesn't care much about it. The psychological state of the characters makes for a lot of comedic scenes.

The satirical undertone also comes out quite well, especially because it is not limited to one character. It's everywhere throughout the film. But Birdman remains mainly a collection of scenes, some better than others. In my opinion, Alejandro Iñarittu has not been able to make a coherent and smooth-looking whole.

2.5

This is one of those movies that had been on my Netflix list for a long time, but I never pressed the play button anyway. Now that he's going to disappear from Netflix, it just had to happen. Birdman is one of those movies I hoped I'd like: critical acclaim, actors playing actors (nice meta), a plot you don't know how it's going to turn out.

Well, the movie was set up and finished. And then, halfway through the movie, something started to gnaw. The acting is excellent. The camera work with apparently one continuous shot is fascinating. It is played with magical realism. And despite all that, the film doesn't touch me. I was not sucked into the story and the faster the end approached, the more disinterested I became. During the scene where Riggan appears to be jumping off the roof I even hoped the movie would end with that, but the movie went on for a good twenty minutes after that.
Actually, it also felt like a theater piece, in which you continue to feel the distance from the characters and what is happening on stage, far away from you. That was, in this setting, not even out of place.

All in all, it's difficult to judge, but because of the strong acting, we ended up with a safe three stars.
