Bedtime Stories plot

"Whatever they dream up... he has to survive."

When handyman Skeeter (Adam Sandler) has to babysit his sister Wendy's kids for a while, he turns out to be a talented storyteller. He tells the most beautiful and imaginative stories to his little nephew and niece, all with himself in the lead. Skeeter also gives them the opportunity to join him: each evening the children get to make up how the stories end. But then something strange happens. All the fictions that Skeeter's niece and nephew in the stories make happen to him come true the day after they speak. That's fun at first, but the things the two kids come up with get bigger and more dangerous, so that Uncle Skeeter soon doesn't know what he's going through.

Movies starring Adam Sandler always follow the same pattern. A comedy about a sympathetic wimpy man who eventually gets the girl.

Sometimes it turns out better (Don't mess with the Zohan, Click) than other times (Blended).

This film is quite witty and actually a nice imaginative family film that is just fun and cozy for the holidays.

Nice film that, after getting going, started nice but gradually lost some power. It only got funny when Skeeter - Adam Sandler's character - tells his first Bedtime Story, which was fun and imaginative. Then, when he realizes that his stories come true and tries to do his bit with that, the stories were 'sent' and I found them to become less so. Everything stays nice and airy and it looks easy. Reasonable family/children's film. 2.5*

Mme.

Adam Sandler has moved into just about every corner of the comedy genre and has only recently begun to shift a bit between genres. Bedtime Stories is his attempt to put himself in there with the kids, while still doing his own thing a bit and bringing his friends like Rob Schneider with him.

However, because he is in an environment that also includes the youthful viewers, the vulgarity and the somewhat coarser parts that similar Sandler films do have been removed. In addition, an imaginative glow is also thrown over the film, but it remains fairly separate from the comedy. These mainly appear during the stories and they are further apart from the central thread.

It is a pity, because this leaves the film fairly limited in creativity by never really mixing the fantasy with the usual story. It seems that the stories are mainly for children, and the regular scenes are for older audiences. I can't imagine that children would really enjoy watching a business competition related to getting a hotel.

The acting is nice. Sandler does what he has to do and the other roles are also fairly well played. Everyone is a predictable appearance, but that does not detract from the experience. The film is not lacking in entertainment and pace, but in cuteness. For example, you never feel a bond between Sandler and the children. Half films get a half mark from me.
