Adieu, Plancher des Vaches! plot
The protagonist is the young Nicolas, who secretly leaves for the 11th arrondissement every day, in an ultimately naive longing for 'real' life. He works as a glass and dish washer and befriends bums and bums. He falls in love with a waitress, but that love is frustrated because she sees more in a bum who pretends to be much richer than he is.
