I grew up with (among others) the books of Roald Dahl. A man who could write enormously on a child's scale with a colorful fantasy. In the sense that he had the art of making the reader's imagination work. As a result, I have been disappointed several times with a film adaptation of his books. The Witches, Mathilda and the Johnny Depp version of Willy Wonka were such disappointments. Not at all what I had in mind when reading the book. fantastic mr. Fox and the original Willy Wonka from the 1970s were not that bad. BFG is somewhere in between, although it is a pity that this has become an animated film. It is somewhat in the direction of the book (in terms of atmosphere I mean) but this is not real quality. Hopefully there will be a film adaptation of this. Much more can be done with this. Maybe it's personal, because as an adult I want to see a film adaptation of a book I read as a child. Well, this is a problem that any book adaptation can have, surely?

It's been a long time since I've seen this one. Weird animation/live-action in my memory. But from what I remember he was very good. A very nice movie that I really liked at the time. Check it out again soon

Youth sentiment... Saw it again today for the first time in 15 years, together with my daughter. It stays upright, but it's not a high flyer. The animation is dated and apart from the BFG not a single character really comes into its own. The movie definitely doesn't live up to the level of the book, but still: very nice. We were not bored.

The character Sophie was already against me as a child (in the film that is). She doesn't look good and has a terribly annoying voice. I always hoped she would be devoured by the Blood Bottler.
