Very nice coming of age film by Copola. Matt Dillon and Mickey Rourke? A beautiful duo!

Remarkable is all the black and white in which the film was shot... except for the fish in question. I expected something from a mafia movie, but it doesn't come close to that. Here we follow the life of the hot-tempered but insecure Rusty James who puts his impulsiveness for fights number one above the beautiful things in life... For example, his love for Patty. However, he is only too eager to follow in the footsteps of his brother Motorcycle Boy and yes... as the boyhood dream often is: to be as tough as your older brother. But that often ends in disappointment and fatal consequences. In the meantime, family matters also play a role, whereby we are regularly treated to strong moments when the brothers show themselves more.

And then that hover scene... unforgettable!

The ending was also very nice... only I thought James' reaction to the fact that his brother was shot by the police was a bit too mild.

The decors of Detroit's shabby slums also provided an appropriate atmosphere. Quite different from the Bronx or Chicago...
