Barfly plot

"Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead."

A poet and alcoholic, Henry Chinaski spends his days in the pub. One day he meets Wanda. She is also an alcoholic, and Henry falls in love with her. For a moment it seems that Henry's poems are becoming successful, but his fame is short-lived. It becomes clear to the two that they really only have one goal in life, and that is to drink and leave the outside world for what it is.

Realistic film about the alcoholic existence, Mickey Rourke manages to convince without effort as the typical annoying drunk.

In general, Barfly doesn't have much to say, the film moves on quietly and it must above all have a good acting level and a good feeling atmosphere.

What I did find a pity is that we get little background information about Henry, and for me Alice Krige could have had a bigger role.

For me personally not the topper that some people see in it, but definitely recommended.

3.5*

The dark romance of the seamy side in this movie based on Bukowski. He wasn't a fan of Rourke. I am here because he plays the tiles of the roof as an impossible man with an elusive and irritating charm. Schroeder shoots in all directions as a director, also in terms of level, but this is one of his best films.
