More fun than in my memory. The whole is strongly reminiscent of 101 Dalmatians, but with kittens that are kidnapped and have to come back by all kinds of animals that come to the rescue. What is immediately noticeable is that the animation is less beautiful than many other Disney films at the time.

Fortunately, The Aristocats has enough fun characters to make it successful. It is sometimes a bit too romanticized for my taste, but the geese, jazz band and of course Edgar regularly provide a smile. Edgar of course has devilish plans, but he doesn't come across as threatening with his clumsy behavior. This makes the scene with the two dogs and the haystack a highlight.

The music is quite good, lingers a bit and the playing time is just not too long. This film also taught me that Timbuktu was in any case very far away.

The best thing about school .... movie!!! Yes, at the MAVO we even had regular film evenings in the auditorium, with a real film committee and the geography teacher behind the projector. In primary school it was a bit more sporadic, but sometimes in the auditorium on Friday afternoons. We got the Aristocats, among other things, and it had stuck as a highlight of my primary school days. Review is nice, just not top Disney level I admit, especially the first half starts a bit slow, but the jazz cats and Duchess and O'Malley in the moonlight make up for a lot.

Inspired by the 100 Dalmatians, a similar script was written to eventually make a full-length film. The resemblance becomes even greater when director Wolfgang Reitherman also returns for this film. The man also worked as a director animator at Lady & The Vagebond, where you can make similarities.

The animation is in terms of story and most of the songs not exactly the strongest in the series. But the music fits the characters and the film has a large dose of charm. The voice roles also play a major role, but the better ones from the Disney series. It's also somewhat aimed at a younger audience, especially the scenes between the dogs and butler Edgar being slapstick. The iconic scene is the song 'Everybody wants to be a cat'. The somewhat painful rendition of the Siamese Cat will certainly be due to the zeitgeist? Hoping the studio learns its lessons.
