Inside Out was a fairly typical, but well-made Pixar with enough jokes to enjoy. And of course this film should also be given a sequel. Riley has gotten a little older and we get to see new colorful figures. Inside Out 2 sticks firmly to the formula, so we get more of the same. But the film isn't too bad, especially for a sequel. Some of the jokes are quite funny and the story may be simple, but it's enough to keep the viewer hooked. Fans of part 1 will also enjoy this. All in all a nice animation.

With this second part, the film has the potential to become a new series of Toy Story. Although the series will certainly remain unrivaled in terms of characters and merchandise, Inside Out can move in the same direction in terms of content. The enormous turnover of this film (also surprising given the period in which Disney is in) will ensure that a part 3 is expensive, but it is also what they are doing with this second film: a next step in growing up. In Toy Story that happened with toys and how a child growing up deals with them, now it's about emotions. Not exactly subtle, but fun and it works.

The humor is fine, the story itself is a bit simple and not really convincing, but the whole decoration and all that stuff with emotions is fine. The story is also nothing more than a framework, although a better story in that regard could have resulted in an even better film. The film is also nice and short. On the one hand, the film is just a little too light to really convince, but on the other hand, the pace is just fine. 3.5*.

Since the emotional turbulence in Inside Out, 13-year-old Riley [Kensington Tallman] is doing well. She makes new friendships with Grace [Grace Lu] and Bree [Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green]. The new friends are overjoyed when ice hockey coach Roberts [Yvette Nicole Brown] invites all three of them to a training camp, where they can prove that they are good enough for a sports scholarship. But then puberty kicks in and room has to be made (literally) for the new emotions of Anxiety [Maya Hawke]. Envy [Ayo Edebiri], Listlessness [Adèle Exarchopoulos] and Embarrassment [Paul Walter Hauser]. This leaves no room for Joy [Amy Poehler], Disgust [Liza Lapira], Fear [Tony Hale], Anger [Lewis Black], and Sadness [Phyllis Smith]. They are literally and figuratively oppressed. Under the guidance of Joy, the repressed emotions try to find a way to live in harmony with the old emotions. A worthy sequel with the same positive message about the usefulness of emotions and the possible consequences of suppressing them. Funny and moving in equal measure (highly).
