Artist Jabari moves into his dream apartment in Manhattan. There he falls in love with his neighbor, Meadow, who is a photographer. Jabari must try to find out if there is room for love in his life.

I didn't see much buzz around this movie, other than a lot of rave reviews here and there. I also had no idea who Kid Cudi is. Entergalactic is his 8th album and instead of a video clip he just makes a whole animation film around it. And then not just an average animation to promote his music, but one that exudes the vibe and can count on great animation in the style of Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse. The result is one of the most romantic films in a long time and also known as an animated film. The story is simple, but so shines in its simplicity and sincerity. It is a warm film in which clichés and small details embrace each other. A very pleasant surprise.

An extension of Kid Cudi's album of the same name and I admit that I personally cannot stand that music (with an overdose of autotune and superficial lyrics). Enthusiasts and fans will probably give it a higher rating. It is a colorful, but somewhat stiffly drawn romantic comedy in which cartoonist Jabari [Kid Cudi] moves into an apartment in Manhattan and falls for his new neighbor Meadow [Jessica Williams]. He has not yet come to terms with the relationship with his ex-girlfriend Carmen [Laura Harrier] and she is suspicious of men. The story is not bad, but certainly not innovative. The supporting cast includes Vanessa Hudgens, Jaden Smith, Macaulay Culkin and Timothée Chalamet.

If Donald Glover's 'Atlanta' were animated. Or like 'Entergalactic' (2022) similarly blends social realism with surrealism to sketch the chemistry of a budding couple. With different animation styles, the juicy anecdotes of friends are told and the mundane flows into fever dreams as characters smoke a joint or completely lose themselves in each other. It's just a shame that 'Entergalactic' (2022) does so little with its own theme about two young Black artists. It does throw some balls in the air by situating the passionate romance in a turbulent time when graffiti artist Jabari (Kid Cudi) and photographer Meadow (Jessica Williams) are on the verge of being absorbed by the establishment. Can they maintain their individuality and specific perspective if they receive recognition? But ultimately these questions are swept aside just as easily as the two lovebirds have a lot of eyes for each other.
