Disconcerting but also poignant film set in Algeria in the 1990s. Nedjma is brimming with energy, lively and full of ambition. No traditional role of the woman sitting at home for her. Her uninhibited and somewhat naive lifestyle is harshly ended with the rise of fundamentalist Islam. The cast, especially the many women, act very well, but it is especially the leading lady who makes a deep impression. It's almost impossible not to hold her in your arms. Excellent direction, filmed close to skin and very sharply edited. There are also a few already classic scenes that will stay with you. It is a pity that a film like Papicha attracts few visitors, the film actually deserves a large audience. For the visitors to this site, go see it while you can.

Alarming film about Algeria in the 1990s when Islamic fundamentalists tried to establish a caliphate in the country. In an increasingly hostile environment, a student tries to make her dreams come true with the help of a handful of friends, including organizing a fashion show on campus. In addition to the occasionally shocking images, the role of Lyna Khoudri as the intrepid student will stay with me, especially the beautiful one.

I think countries like Algeria and others need such courageous people.

An uncomfortable film about a few free-spirited girls who follow fashion on a campus, but are increasingly forced into a straitjacket because of the extremist violence in Algeria in the 1990s. Courageous yet naive, that's how you could describe the main character, stubborn and determined too.

It is frightening to have to live in such a regime as a young modern woman. Not the first time something like this has been told, but it remains.

I thought the opening scene in the taxi with Technotronic's music was quite a nice opener. The changing, the police check, ... the film immediately indicated what it was about. The characters are central and partly due to the good acting, this film is quite successful.
