Pan Wolodyjowski plot
Poland, around 1668. When Michal Wolodyjowski's fiancée dies, he wants to enter a monastery. However, his friends prevent him from doing so and he is sent to the border of Poland, where the Ottomans are a constant threat. He falls in love with the beautiful Basia, but this brings him into conflict with Azja, the leader of the Tatars, who also likes her.
