Surprisingly clever that I had not voted for this film yet, because I saw this film at my brother's children's party in the cinema at the time. I was actually triggered on this movie by watching the prequel "Cannonball! (1976)" yesterday which is much louder. This film must mainly have the humor (although often very bland) and the cast because the latter was very impressive with a lot of greats. Despite the arsenal of celebrities, many didn't really come into their own and that was mainly due to the short duration of this film (barely 90 minutes) so that not everyone came into their own. For example, Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise (very irritating and not funny at all) had the leading role, and were therefore the most often in the picture, which made the others (actually the nicest) a bit spoiled (often only visible driving in their car).

The story is not very good and to be honest I was a bit disappointed and the same goes for the execution (all a bit too exaggerated and too bland). But as a child I thought this was a nice film and especially because of the fast and beautiful cars, but also because of Jackie Chan (his debut in an American film) who also provided some action. The film is certainly fun to watch again (especially because of the many greats) but nothing more.

Went to see this twice in the cinema at the time as a Reynolds and especially Moore fan.

This film about illegal racing across America actually has no story at all and is made up of separate scenes. It is therefore the task of the well-known actors to keep the film running with their charisma and to give it added value. And it works... nicely.

Reynolds and DeLuise make a hilarious couple; Davis Jr. and (a whole movie who seems completely drunk) Martin also know how to get the laughter on their side,

but it is really Roger Moore who steals the show in the most wacky role of his career: a Jewish rich man's son, who THINK he is the famous movie star Roger Moore.

This makes for some very hilarious scenes, with Moore taking quite the piss. Also notice the running gag: in every different scene Moore is in, he has a different beautiful lady with him.

Furthermore, Fawcett can of course be admired, whose fame was already on the wane, but still looks as if he could be put through a ring.

Also note the role of Jackie Chan, whose international breakthrough this should have been, and cameos from Peter Fonda (with a nod to his Easy Rider fame) and Bianca Jagger (Mick's ex).

Furthermore, the film hardly represents anything and it is more of an excuse for Needham to have as many car chases and stunts as possible.

Reasonable, but somewhat tiring entertainment.

A six or three stars.

Mediocre film in which an illegal car race attracts many different participants. This bold action-comedy is rather fragmentary and the humor is for the most part on the bland side (Roger Moore provides the funniest jokes). A cast with quite a few well-known names and some nice stunt work here and there.
