erm.

Apparently this documentary was (partly?) Schwarzenegger's breakthrough. That explains the high score of this thing just a little more, because without that context I really didn't understand anything. With a little more context, but that doesn't make this documentary any better, of course.

It's about... bodybuilding. A bit of nagging about how it is an art (which obsession isn't that) and some nagging between the bodybuilders. Nasty characters, including Schwarzenegger. That "oh they are nice" atmosphere is really to cry.

Also some images of a training Schwarzenegger (ooh) and some competitions (aahh). Nice! If you're into bodybuilders, I couldn't care less. It's a pretty dull and bland affair, with some posers (hah!) trying to be funny in front of the camera and a dry recording of an annoying "sport" (or was it art after all?).

Nope.

1.0*

Still fascinating docudrama about bodybuilding, with the focus on the then 28-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger. For this documentary, he allowed himself to be persuaded to participate one more time in the Mr. Olympia competition in Pretoria. He had already won that title five times in a row and was about to retire from his career to embark on a new challenge... acting. His main competitors are also featured, most notably Lou Ferrigno, but it soon becomes clear that Schwarzenegger's natural charisma and intelligence take on an absolute starring role. It results in a fun, often very funny and sometimes even endearing documentary. Certain moments and situations have been staged and/or manipulated, but overall this is an honest and humiliating look at a bizarre subculture.
