Tired of always being defeated by Superman (Reeve), Lex Luthor (Hackman) seizes his chance when world leaders decide to destroy all nuclear weapons. He uses one of Superman's hair to create his own Superhuman. Superman finds out that this 'Nuclear Man' is at least as strong as he is and has his hands full trying to solve the havoc Nuclear Man is causing.

This part really disappointed me. It was a lot worse than, say, the first superman. This movie barely gets 2 stars.

After Superman III, producers Ilya and Alexander Salkind decided to discontinue their Superman series. Producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus took over the job of producer and filmed this very mediocre fourth part for half the budget (17 million dollars) of the previous films.
Christopher Reeve decided to reprise his role as Superman one last time in exchange for creative input into the screenplay. Gene Hackman also returned as Superman's arch-rival Lex Luthor. The result is anything but positive. The story is very mediocre and the action and tricks are also extremely disappointing. The bland humor of Superman III has fortunately been omitted, but that is also the only positive thing that can be said of Superman IV. The film was slated by the press and public and flopped in cinemas, so it took until 2006 before a new Superman film appeared in cinemas.

When I read the reviews
on this movie
I thought oh my god it must be really bad
but it went pretty well
Weird I've seen Superman Iv a few times
and have to be very honest
that I did enjoy myself.
To be honest
I like the special effects
not that bad at all
and honestly I don't notice that they are poorly made.
Christopher Reeve puts another for me
good Superman down.
I didn't think Nuclear Man was wrong either.
What really bothered me in the movie
got to Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman)
that man is not doing anything
And I think it's the weakest part of this movie.
So Superman IV gets a 2.5 . from me
not particularly high,
but i like it that way
