Jacob Elordi turned down an audition for Superman: Legacy as he felt the subject matter was too dark.
When DC Studios underwent radical changes at executive level, with James Gunn tasked with creating a new cinematic universe, Henry Cavill was informed that he would not be returning as Superman on any future project despite a cameo at the end of Black Adam.
Plans for Superman: Legacy soon got underway and David Corenswet was eventually cast, with Rachel Brosnahan also recruited to play Lois Lane.
Elordi, who hit major fame thanks to his role in Euphoria and who also plays Elvis in the Priscilla biopic, was previously sought for the role of Clark Kent.
“They asked me to read for Superman,” he told GQ.
“That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”
The official premise for Superman: Legacy reads:
'Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.'
Thanks to Elordi's comments, we now know this is a darker story than we perhaps thought.
Would Elordi ever do a superhero movie?
Overall, it doesn't seem like superhero or comic book movies are Elordi's thing, but he won't rule out ever appearing in one.
“Not particularly, no," he responded when asked if he could see himself as a superhero.
"I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!'
"And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”
The cast of Euphoria: Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Eric Dane, Storm Reid, and Nika King
