That tagline on the poster; 'Never Give In, Never Give Up, Never Go Back'? Please let's quickly play Russian Roulette with a fully loaded revolver. Down with the beasts.

What a wrong mess. Part 1 was still fun. This is just junk. Cruise is about the only thing about this film that is above average and even that doesn't seem to make sense. Smulders, that so-called daughter; all the cringe-inducing scenes those two ladies produce are not on I don't know how many hands to count. The other story that Edward Zwick (where did he turn off his navigation!?) tried to tell was also as bad as the average Premier League referee. Bah, what an uninspired bad piece of film this was.

Nothing better than part 1.

Never Go Back is actually the advice Zwick should have followed, but a sequel like this will pay off. After a less successful second part, they can then think about a reboot. That way the business continues to run smoothly.

This Jack Reacher has become a very tame action/thriller, where all plot points have been done many times before and the elaboration has been kept as cheap as possible, at least for a cinema film. Left and right still an explosion because it has to be, but otherwise very sleep-inducing.

Cruise looks a bit puffy, Smulders does not fit her role at all. That child is also completely irritating and the moaning about women in the army also does the film very little good. Mno, you can make a better film of this with your eyes closed, the question is whether they were working on that of course. I honestly don't think so.

1.5*

Jack Reacher part 2, different movie, much the same though. Reacher solves another impossible case in his usual quirky way, and that's about it.

Not that it is a worthless film, but rather a film for a rainy afternoon, JR2 does not bring much new and stays on the beaten track. A bit of tension, humor and action, and typical for such a character as Reacher is that many blows, kicks and bullets are exchanged but that rarely does anything damage. Also typical for such characters is that sooner or later they always dive into the suitcase with their opponent, something that does not happen with both Pike and Smulders, so parts 1 and 2, by the way. And I think that's a relief actually.

What is also striking is the ease of things, knocking someone out in a plane and nobody notices, an escape from a complex he has never been before, where he knows how to find everything and not 'watch out' in the job description of the vacancy and the use of actors that there is no doubt that they are the bad guys because they always play shady types, Knepper and McCallany.

Funny though, writer Lee Childs with a cameo just like in part 1 and certain jokes. Oh well...nice for once and quickly on to the next one as far as I'm concerned. Oh... and Smulders is of course very pleasant to watch.
