"Mr. Church" is a beautiful drama that is mainly from the perspective of Charlie (Britt Robertson)
Eddie Murphy plays the role of Mr. Church in a beautiful, understated way, I also like how they made jazz music something iconic of that character. Nice that because of the jazz music in the last scene Charlie thought it was him.
Britt Robertson also plays a solid lead role and Natascha McElhone, who plays Charlie's mother, jumps off the screen in the first half of the film. She is not only a beautiful presence but also has a very charismatic and gentle appearance.
What I find typical is that the death of Marie and Henry (Mr. Church) does not come across as a heartbreaking event. To some extent it seems that this was also the intention of the creators, especially with the death of Mr. Church.
What does come across is the pain Charlie feels as she watches her mother waste away.
Quite a nice drama with some beautiful and heartwarming scenes here and there.

Actually, I had written off Eddie Murphy years ago and suddenly he is back there frying eggs in the kitchen. As if he had never been away. The tone is set for a warm film about good and bad fortune until death do them part.

A great film —inspired by a true friendship—about sincere relationships between people, who enrich each other's lives. The cast, with Murphy, a charming Britt Robertson and an as always radiant Natascha McElhone is doing a particularly strong job.

The same goes for director Bruce Beresford, who I feel is also back from being away. I think it's been since Tender Mercies and Driving Miss Daisy that he made such a heartwarming film. I enjoyed this one exceptionally. The usual cynical comments I read here and there can't change that. A gem.

Nice film about a woman and her daughter who unexpectedly get help from a cook at home. In itself a nice story, although here and there a bit sentimental. Nice characters and a nice pace. The film seems to hint at some kind of twist/denouement concerning the title character, but that (unfortunately) remains absent. Just under 3.5 stars.
