Now revised for the umpteenth time, but nevertheless I always had no idea who directed this film. This time I paid extra attention to the credits. So it turns out to be the debut of a director who initially made little, but who unfortunately has not made these kinds of films anymore. A quick glance leads you to the conclusion that the man has a weak resume with actually quite mediocre films. Demolition Man can be called an exception to this, because this debut can best be called his highlight.

The movie actually starts as you want, the action immediately pops off the screen and soon Stallone and Snipes face each other. It is the beginning of an action film that makes a big jump in time and in which a cop and a criminal once again fight each other. The world has changed a lot and has a different society, which is turned upside down by Spartan and Phoenix. Pure fun, but also Snipes (who plays a great psychopath) plays his part with the necessary humor, so that the hard action is also interspersed with funny moments. Sandra Bullock also plays a good part, as a pretty dorky lady who keeps everything to the present and is not a fan of innovation, but is nevertheless interested in the past.

Stallone is also in the right place and has some nice one-liners.

Lots of explosions and bullets, enough one-liners and the necessary humor. Demolition Man is pure entertainment that entertains time and time again.

Seen this one together with Judge Dredd. That's quite an entertaining combination by the way... with a little bit of imagination this film could almost have been the second part of Judge Dredd. Well, apart from the link to the graphic novels. But Stallone's role, aside from the package, could have been rolled out of the same pen.

Of Bullock I sometimes wonder what has changed since the 90s, when I joined the Sandy-D fan club without hesitation, and then somewhat as explained in the quote in The Big Bang Theory : Bullock movies are always good. But apparently I grew out of that, in itself the films in which she plays are on average never really bad, but never really good either - at least no real outlier comes to mind.

Snipes lacks a bit here and there in the criminal conviction, and the action scenes are a bit tame compared to films that primarily aim for that. Apparently it is more about the combination with the humor and the absurdity of the situation. But about 25 years later, it is still subject to wear and tear. Unlike Judge Dredd, actually, who just got stronger as far as I'm concerned.

However, I have to change my prejudice about the protagonist, Stallone does his job amusingly for the viewer, humor is woven throughout the film. Not that I was laughing out loud in front of the statue, but as I said it was entertaining.

The story was nicely filmed and the actors also came across well, they apparently felt like it.

One of them is New York actor Glenn Shadix who has a great role as "Associate Bob" in which he is an advisor to the leader Dr. Raymond Cocteau (Nigel Hawthorne), a shrewd and underhanded person who is adored by the population for making society 'good and boring'.

He takes good care of himself and wants to exterminate the 'underground population'. Those are the folks who "contribute nothing" to society created by Dr. Cocteau, they just want to "live" as it suits them. So eating meat, having sex the old way, lounging and drinking, next to work, so the way we go through life now.

Stallone is therefore finding it increasingly difficult to deal with the way people live and is subject to a lot of reprimands through fines.

A 7.
