What Taken and Law Abiding Citizen did well, Death Wish does poorly. Bruce Willis can't act and that's why you don't empathize with the movie. Especially since Bruce can't show emotions, this makes me miss the emotional connection.

In addition, the story is not only wafer thin, it is also boring. The entire movie feels empty and you feel like you're seeing snatches from other movies (like the one above) where everything is just screwed up. With more build-up and tension I could have looked through it a bit, but this is nothing.

This is not a movie made with heart and soul.

The title and the name of the main character is the same. And yes, Mrs Kersey dies after a robbery. But there are no further similarities with the much, much better original. Joe Carnahan's screenplay wastes far too much time introducing the Kerseys and their blissful family life, and far too little on the transformation from the life-saving surgeon to the life-ending killing machine. The result is a vulgar revenge thriller in which Eli Roth mainly concentrates on portraying the bloodshed as spectacularly as possible and has little interest in the moral issues that 'The Grim Reaper' raises. The regularly recurring and self-repeating collage of radio and TV commentators only confirms the superficiality of this dime-a-dozen action thriller.

Watched the cinema yesterday, I had a great time!

Maybe it has to do with the expectations beforehand. I read that a lot of people here think that Wilis is acting badly, that the story has little to do with it, that it is unbelievable, and so on.

Anyway, that's more or less what I expected from this film: a straight forward story about a frustrated caricatural man who takes matters into his own hands. The cause of his pain is well portrayed, the somewhat soggy family scenes at least helped me to sympathize with his character. I also thought the tension during the break-in was well portrayed.

His transformation from righteous lifesaver to unscrupulous murderer goes very quickly, but because of the somewhat comic note I can place this just fine. The film doesn't always take itself too seriously, and Wilis' witty comments to his psychiatrist underline that.

The influence of social media, where people are quickly portrayed as heroes or villains, is cleverly taken into account, as are the diverse views of the DJs. However, those looking for profound answers will be disappointed. They are not offered here. The opinions expressed therefore seem more intended to underline the status of the Grim Reaper than to justify his actions morally.

My criticism of the film is that it could have been a bit more over the top. I liked the scene in the garage in that regard: clear display of power and a gross act of revenge because of the injustice that was done to him. I therefore found the film too realistic at times. A more Tarantino/Rodriquez-esque approach would have made this movie better. Because that was the feeling I got when I saw the trailer.
