Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is a jaded detective who isn't known for his subtle methods. His assignment is to escort a key witness (Mos Def) from the police station to court. The distance over which this must take place is 16 blocks. Along the way, Mosley learns that this man will testify against his corrupt colleagues and that the entire New York police force will do everything they can to get him out of the way. Mosley is now forced to choose between loyalty to his colleagues and protecting this witness...

A role that fits Bruce Willis perfectly. The eternal grumbler does very well as a half-aged police officer. Mos Def does even better. Rappers should definitely stay away from Hollywood, but this was just okay. Sure, his whining is annoying, but it adds so much to the story. Many had already handed the whiner over to corrupt buddies, but the fact that it doesn't happen here makes the film even stronger. So agonizing that I genuinely enjoyed it. 16 Blocks is a nice and smooth police film. It has a good story, great action and is a lot more versatile than you would expect from a film from the 2 euro buckets.

Excellent action film with a nice role of Bruce Willis as a tired police officer, who has to get back into action by protecting a witness. Just right for Willis. Especially the interplay between him and the manic Mos Def is good, and the bond between the two is well developed. It's all a bit predictable and of course the storyline around corrupt police officers has been done a million times before. But it is all brought exciting and the actors know what to do with it.
