Er komt een film (echte mensen, dus niet animatie) van Avatar: The Last Airbender. De populaire tv serie op Nickelodeon. Lijkt mij wel vet!

'Mummy'-regisseur stort zich op Tarzan.

.Regisseur Stephen Sommers waagt zich aan jungleheld Tarzan. De filmmaker, bekend van de eerste twee 'Mummy'-films, is in gesprek met Warner Bros over een nieuwe productie gebaseerd op de beroemde boekenreeks van Edgar Rice Burroughs. Dat meldt het Amerikaanse filmvakblad The Hollywood Reporter.

Het filmproject werd twee jaar geleden al aangekondigd. Aanvankelijk zou Guillermo del Toro de regie voor zijn rekening nemen. Nu die voor vier jaar is verbonden aan de tweedelige verfilming van J.R.R. Tolkiens fantasieboek 'The Hobbit' kan Sommers met de aapman aan de slag.

Sommers heeft aardig wat ervaring met het maken van actiefilms met een groot budget. Na 'The Mummy' en 'The Mummy Returns' maakte hij films als 'The Scorpion King' en 'Van Helsing'.

Sinds 1918 zijn meer dan tachtig films gemaakt over Tarzan. Zwemkampioen Johnny Weissmuller speelde de held maar liefst twaalf keer. Disney maakte in 1999 een tekenfilmversie van het avonturenverhaal. (novum/hln.be)

Ik heb hier weinig over gehoord, spannend is het wel iig.

Zwaartekracht is een uiterst zwakke kracht... zou me geen zorgen maken.

Oooooh yeah hier was ik als kind helemaal gek van, vervolgens heb ik lang moeten zoeken om te achterhalen wat dit nou ook al weer was. Het werd in nederland uitgezonden als strijd der planeten. Die dudes met die vogelhelmen! En hun vliegtuig veranderde in de vuurvogel ...jaja.

Johnny Depp's nieuwe projecten:

Pirates 4, Mad Hatter en Lone Ranger.

Walt Disney Studios held a massive event today at the Kodak Theatre in LA, during which the Studios’ chairman, Dick Cook, made a string of announcements about their upcoming movies over the next few years.

And Johnny Depp was at the heart of it all.

The actor showed up on stage for a triple announcement which apparently ties him to Disney for some time. That announcement was:

• That Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean 4.

• That he will star as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s next movie, Alice In Wonderland.

• Neither of those were huge surprises, but the next one was. Boy, was it.

For Depp has signed on to star as Tonto in a movie version of The Lone Ranger, which will be produced by Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Now that's surprising - not just because Tonto is traditionally a role for a Native American (although Depp's great-grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee, and of course he played a Native American in his self-directed film, The Brave), but because it's very much a sidekick role to the flashier Lone Ranger, a masked crusader for justice in the Old West. So if Disney has Depp in the second banana role, they must have someone really special lined up for the Ranger himself. And, of course, we imagine that Tonto will get a lot more to do in this movie.

Details on the timeline of all three movies are a little sketchy right now, but since Burton starts shooting in a couple of months on Alice In Wonderland, expect Depp to head into that first. That might not be a huge role, anyway.

Then, it should be onto The Lone Ranger, which has a provisional release date of 2010. Interestingly, this could put it up against Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow's The Green Hornet. Why interestingly? Well, Britt Reid - aka The Green Hornet - is The Lone Ranger's great-nephew.

Of course, The Green Hornet is a Sony movie, so it's unlikely that we'll see them team up, a la Tony Stark turning up in The Incredible Hulk, but it'll still be fun to see who wins the Battle Of The Reid Family in 2010...

And after that, then we'll see Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow, although Pirates 4 is currently only in early development. But, given that Depp staggered on stage at the Disney event in full Captain Jack make-up and costume, it's clearly a role he's itching to get back to.

Denzel Washington's nieuwe project: The Book of Eli.

Denzel Washington is going to save the world. Well, what’s left of it.

Washington has just signed on to star in The Book Of Eli, the post-apocalyptic epic that will mark the return to feature directing of Albert and Allen Hughes, almost eight years after From Hell.

The story takes place after America has been turned into a barren wasteland, and will see Washington play a warrior who, and we’re quoting here, “fights to bring society the knowledge that is key to its redemption.” And, we’re hoping, a warrior who hasn’t seen The Postman.

We’re only kidding – let’s hope that this is closer to Mad Max 2. Certainly, there’s an excellent pedigree surrounding The Book Of Eli, which is a co-production between the Warners-based company, Alcon Entertainment and Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures, for which Susan Downey and Silver himself will produce. So our hopes for it are high.

Filming will start in New Mexico – home of post-apocalyptic pics at the moment (that’s where Terminator Salvation shot) – in January.

Oprah Joins Princess and The Frog

The most powerful woman in showbusiness is giving her seal of approval to the next Disney Animated film. Yes, no less a personage than Oprah Winfrey is set to voice Eudora, the mother of the lead character in The Princess and the Frog.

The story is set in New Orleans during the Jazz Age of the 1920s, and is a traditionally-animated Disney fairytale musical about Tiana and her amphibious love. Randy Newman wrote the score, and the voice cast already included Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls) as Tiana, Keith David as Dr Facilier, a voodoo practitioner, and John Goodman as Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff, a wealthy sugar mill owner.

The Little Mermaid directors Ron Clements and John Musker are directing, so think old-school Disney through and through.

Oprah feels like a good addition to the cast - she has lots of experience in voicing animation, from Charlotte's Web and Bee Movie, both of which she had small roles in. And if nothing else, this should give the box-office another boost if she so much as mentions it on her show, or in her magazine, or in passing to her hairdresser.

Winslet en DiCaprio weer samen in film.

do 02/10/08 08:15 - Elf jaar na het kassucces "Titanic" spelen Kate Winslet en Leonardo DiCaprio opnieuw een koppel in de film "Revolutionary Road" van Winslets echtgenoot Sam Mendes.

De film is gebaseerd op een boek van Richard Yates. De film speelt zich af in de jaren 50 en gaat over de verloren hoop en dromen van een koppel in een buitenwijk van Connecticut.

Winslet zag naar eigen zeggen enorm op tegen de seksscène in de film. "Leo is mijn beste vriend en Sam is mijn echtgenoot, dus kunt je wel voorstellen hoe vreemd ik de situatie vond", zei ze.

De film komt bij ons begin volgend jaar in de zalen. Elf jaar geleden speelden DiCaprio en Winslet een passioneel koppel in "Titanic", de meest succesvolle film ooit.

PKD's Ubik Is Optioned

Celluloid Dreams has optioned the rights to Philip K. Dick's 1969 SF novel Ubik, Variety reported.

A metaphysical comic nightmare on death and salvation, Ubik was heralded as one of the 100 greatest English-language novels by Time magazine.

The film will be produced by Hengameh Panahi of Celluloid Dreams and Isa Dick Hackett, the author's daughter, of Electric Shepherd Productions. It is slated to go into production in early 2009.

Hoe zit het hier eigenlijk mee?

Cruise en Theron in remake Franse thriller.

Tom Cruise en Charlize Theron krijgen een rol in een remake van de Franse thriller Antony Zimmer uit 2005.

In de originele Antony Zimmer van regisseur Jerome Salle waren hoofdrollen weggelegd voor Yvan Attal en Sophie Marceau. In de film wordt een nietsvermoedende man op de hielen gezeten door de Russische maffia en de politie die denken dat hij iemand anders is.

De remake wordt geregisseerd door Bharat Nalluri en Christopher McQuarrie gaat het script herschrijven. Cruise en McQuarrie werkten ook al samen bij de productie van de nieuwste film Valkyrie, waarin de Amerikaanse acteur speelt. Valkyrie verschijnt de komende week in de Noord-Amerikaanse bioscopen.
