Dallas Buyers Club plot

"Sometimes it takes a hustler to change the world"

Loosely based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, a drug user, womanizer and homophobe who was diagnosed with HIV and AIDS in 1986 and had only 30 days to live. He started taking the drug Retrovir AZT, the only legal drug available in America at the time, but this brought him face to face with death. In order to survive, he smuggled all kinds of alternative medicines into the United States from all over the world. Fellow sufferers also came to him, and along with his doctor Eve Saks and another patient named Rayon, he inadvertently formed the 'Dallas Buyers Club': they were the first to provide paying patients with this illegal drug in America. The FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) and the big pharmaceuticals soon started fighting them.

I started this with some suspicion: as soon as the first photos of an extremely emaciated McConaughey came out I already "knew" that this would earn him at least a nomination at the Oscars, and in combination with his efforts to make an image switch, I couldn't help but suspect him of effect seeking. However, after a few minutes I was completely over and almost forgot that I was watching McConaughey, he was so lost in his role (although that perpetual Texan accent of his still gets on my nerves sometimes, but hey, you can hardly blame him for this role). The story seems predictable on the loner-versus-the-system principle, yet it takes place under such life-threatening circumstances and with such social urgency that the entire film remains captivating until the last gasp, partly because of the beautiful role of Jared. Leto (who is given extra depth by the harrowing visit he pays to his father). Two well-deserved Oscars, although with Leto's I involuntarily wondered why the Academy hadn't paid attention to another role that this one kept reminding me of, Philip Seymour Hoffman's in Flawless (1999). All in all, a wonderful movie. Humor: When Adruitha Lee and Robin Mathews received the Oscars for the Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling, those statues probably cost (much) more than their budget for the film: that was a whopping $250. ..

“Let me give y'all a little news flash. There ain't nothin' out there can kill fuckin' Ron Woodroof in 30 days.”

Excellent movie. The story is interesting, the combination of drama and humor is perfect and Dallas Buyers Club has a strong protagonist in McConaughey. The Oscar is fully deserved. The way the pharmaceutical industry works is sometimes horrifying, and the influence it exerts on doctors is dubious.

But the film is also a human story about the AIDS-stricken Ron Woodroof, who is not satisfied with his 30-day diagnosis and tries everything to get the best medicine. Director Vallée wisely chooses not to make Woodroof a hero and also to expose his weaknesses. Strong acting also from Leto and Garner, and the interplay of this trio produces beautiful scenes. Dallas Buyers Club is a beautiful portrait of people who will do anything to survive.

I didn't really want to give an opinion, just a number, but after I saw that name of MM everywhere I thought, who is that anyway. After Googling him I was in shock. I used to watch every comedy he starred in, but hadn't recognized him here in 100 years. What the fuck, what a change. Incredible! I'm really in shock that I've been watching MM all this time without knowing it haha bizarre
