Nói Albínói plot

Seventeen-year-old Nói drifts through life in a remote fjord in northern Iceland. Though intelligent enough, he still gets himself into trouble over and over again. Nói arouses her interest and Iris makes him hope for a better life, far away from the cold Iceland.

Wonderful feel bad movie. Real drama, painful humor and a beautiful picture to see. Had left this one too long. Should have seen it a lot sooner!

Special movie. Of course the beautiful cinematography lays a strong foundation in this 'Nói Albínói'. Other than that, I really thought this was a very comical movie, right up to the avalanche. Very strong ending too. The bank robbery, the blood, the tape recorder, the fortune teller, the grave to be dug, etc. Dry humor of the highest order. Very nice. Other than that, it just looks great. Nice pace, fascinating characters, intriguing atmosphere. Yes, this picture surprised me quite a bit. Fascinating movie. So plenty of it too.

Long ago after I saw Dark Horse by him I was able to see Noi Albino. One that has been out of print for years in NL. Well, the English version was for sale at Fame for 5 euros.

Icelandic movies all have one thing in common. The dejection, touching humor and above all a chilly and bleak climate as decoration. You can always predict that in advance. Here we follow in a snow-covered place, outsider Noí. A boy with a high intelligence (check). And as you know, the bastards are absolutely not waiting for that or just take him for granted like some crazy person. Even though he's trying to rob a bank with a shotgun. "Don't Noi, go home, get some rest... or something. School is not going well, and his father is an alcoholic... Still he tries to hold his own and when he meets Iris it seems to get some light in the gloomy life in a desolate place. The romance really wants to appear difficult because of the above.

The ending is painful... that's all I have to say.

Perhaps it must be due to the climate that such good films come from a remote island. Noi Albino is one of those. Subtle, raw and laughing at things that are actually distressing.

I'll be going after Kari's other two titles soon...

4.0*
