The 'Burbs plot

"He's a man of peace in a savage land... Suburbia."

Ray Peterson has new neighbors. These just don't seem to be everyday people. They prefer not to be seen during the day and dig holes in their backyard at night. All this is enough for the neighborhood to label the new neighbors as evil cultists who kill people. When an old man in the street suddenly disappears, Peterson and his neighbors do not shy away from any means of proving the so-called murder.

The (Su)burbs.

Finally, after 20 years, I got the chance to review this work in HD.

Dern in particular is hilarious at times. In fact, the entire cast is strong, with Hanks as the dopey citizen cock leading the way. The story is simple but effective and entertaining.

Nice dialogues and an excellent creepy atmosphere mix well in this comic film from the 80s.

Very good.

Funny suburban genre mix by Dante. Very style/quality-steady director, always scores a satisfactory with this type of work. Also a rare role from Tom Hanks: he's not annoying here. It's also funny how the style of the film changes as the story progresses; the bright colors are disappearing more and more and the camera work drops down little by little (literally). In this way Dante cunningly sucks the viewer into the imaginative, small world. But as is often the case, the basic idea is more fun than the execution. I do miss the sharp edges a bit and found Ducommun particularly irritating and too present.

Downright delightful and humorous film that makes fun of life in a boring, average neighborhood in a delightful way.

A nice dry picture is created of a number of very different neighbors who irritate or incite each other in a delightful way. This became the amusement of others. A missing person and a couple of new residents cause even more costly unrest. Art in particular, the man of incitement and wild theories, succeeds wonderfully in stirring things up...and it seems more a fact than a question of whether the Klopeks are eating something that the daylight can't bear.

Precious scenes pass in the case of the 'visit' that the two couples make, as well as when one enters the house and starts searching. One funny situation follows another crazy silly action or dialogue. I personally find the characters particularly colorful, the trotting ex-command in the form of Dern is great. The always incendiary Art is great. Hanks, on the other hand, plays the conscience and a timid character. I also think the two Klopek brothers, especially Uncle Reuben, are brilliant. All in all, in my opinion, the film thrives on the blackly comical, sometimes comical atmosphere. Sometimes it might be a bit too bland, but if you're in the right mood, I think it's a fine film and a wonderful piece of youth sentiment.

Delightful entertainment, wonderfully performed, at least once almost laughing out loud when Bruce Dern falls from the roof and all in all I'm surprised that the film scores quite poorly.
