What's worse than Bloodrayne: The Third Reich? A parody of it! Unbelievable, what a bad mess. It's very clear that both films were shot back-to-back. At first it's funny: you see the same scenes but still different.

After that, the ending is really lost. It's all so unfunny. It's on a level like Date Movie and all those other hideous parodies. And yes, that horribly bad Mengele look-a-like is back. And Boll plays Hitler...

Kudos to fast-forward!

Ah, Uwe Boll. One of the most controversial figures in the film industry. Reviled by almost everyone, either for his politically incorrect films that poke fun at everything and everyone, or for his cinematic qualities that have earned him the title of worst director of the moment. And yet I do like the man. His pulpy game adaptations should suit me in principle, but especially his attitude is legendary. He lashes out at almost the entire film industry, from tirades against critics or attacks on directors like Steven Spielberg ("Spielberg gets sloppy") and actors like Ben Kingsley ("My performance in Postal as 'Nazi Theme Park Owner' easily outperforms Ben Kingsley in Schindler's List!"). I wondered a while ago why reviews of Boll films are mainly about Boll himself, but now I've fallen into that trap too. Anyway, let me talk about Blubberella.

The film is certainly not bad, but I can't call it very good either. I have to be honest that I expected it to be a bit sharper, it all remained rather tame. The film was very easy to watch, the self-mockery of both Boll and lead actress Lindsay Hollister, who makes fun of her own weight, is commendable, and some ideas are really funny (Hitler, played by Boll himself, who turns out to be a Risk fan ), but all in all there were too few of those kinds of moments, and too many lame jokes. 2*

Perhaps director Uwe Boll was quick to realize his failure with Bloodrayne: The Third Reich, because this parody of it was released barely a year later. Cinematically, that doesn't turn out very uplifting, but the self-conscious humor deserves some praise. Blubberella is admittedly more entertaining than the source material it uses, but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of jokes miss the mark. Lindsay Hollister's character is also a bit too bland and clumsy to provide the humor with some extra wind in its sails. Boll regularly breaks the fourth wall in this film and those moments often provide the best scenes, but Blubberella is difficult to call high in terms of quality, especially since the few action moments are still somewhat soullessly portrayed.
