What a B movie

Very mediocre acting, flimsy attempts at humor, lousy effects, a wafer-thin story, downright backward situations, bad direction and completely tension-free.

Got me completely bored.

This 'failed attempt at a film' is also not worth further explanation.

I really don't know what I could give extra points for, so we're stuck at the bottom.

0.5*

I'll just hate the game then

It's a bit of a shame that there is such a smear campaign against Uwe Boll. The more I see of his movies, the more I come to appreciate the best man. Far Cry is far from good, but that was not the intention in advance. You can see that in the beginning when an American thinks he has to explain to a German what American hospitality is. it's just one of the kitschy dialogues. In that respect I dare to make a comparison with the work of Quentin Tarentino. Some statements are great for laughing. Udo Kier plays a great role in this way. Til Schweiger beams in his gruffness.

There are a number of things that stand out. Some of the plot ([spoilered genetically engineered soldiers]) is clearly copied from Universal Soldier. On the other hand, it is clearly borrowed from classic SF, horror and other pulps (Tarentino does that a lot too). You can see that in a number of parts: it takes place in an inconvenient location (the island), the bad guys (I think) have no other goal than to rule the world, the maniacal professor (Udo Kier rules!) and so on but by.

I just found Far Cry very entertaining. Full of cool bad camp (the developments in the plot and the dialogues are hilarious), but also great action scenes. So good, in fact, that it wouldn't look out of place in popular movies. Yes, I really appreciate Uwe Boll as an independent filmmaker.

Uwe Boll round the bend and damn if I haven't enjoyed myself. The dialogues are so painful and the script is so stupid that it becomes pure enjoyment. Where Boll is often compared to an Ed Wood, I can't help but say that Boll certainly knows how to put down entertaining films. Where Rampage was actually surprisingly good and In The Name Of The King and Bloodrayne were mainly entertaining, Far Cry also falls into the last category in my opinion: bad, but oh so funny.

Udo Kier and Til Schweiger are also the best actors in a film where a lot of people make a mess of it. Veteran Michael Paré again has an astonishingly meaningless supporting role and Ralf Moeller is allowed to show up again to perform a c-variant of Schwarzenegger, but it's all fun. Silly action that is quite fun at times, stupid one-liners that never work and are therefore extra funny and a completely rudderless plot make for a great evening of popcorn entertainment. From now on a little less fat jokes only in it, that actor was really annoying.
