Tony plot

""I was — to be frank — a spoiled, miserable, narcissistic, self-destructive and thoughtless young lout, and badly in need of a good ass-kicking.""

Summer of 1975. The 19-year-old aspiring writer Bourdain travels to Provincetown, Massachusetts. There, he finds work as a dishwasher at a local restaurant. During this time, thanks to the food and the people around him, he finds inspiration and meaning. He begins to understand that food is more than just subsistence – it is a source of stories, rebellion, and community.

A decent film, but one that has little to do with Anthony Bourdain. You could say that his life is interesting enough to make a decent film about without making too much up. Here, all sorts of things are made up, meaning you could just as easily have made this film without his name. Of course, things are dramatized in biopics—film is essentially a dramatization—but this film feels more like a lie. I don't even know why? Why would you do this to someone who is no longer alive? This film is a lie.

A beautifully acted and particularly accurate portrayal of the era of 19-year-old aspiring writer Anthony Bourdain, who experiences a pivotal summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts, in 1975. Not a biopic, then, but a vividly depicted and highly entertaining fragment from the life of the future chef. Dominic Sessa does an excellent job in the lead role, and Antonio Banderas is once again exceptionally good.
