The Adventures of Tintin is a nice movie to watch.
First of all, a compliment for the beautiful animation. This movie looks very real and realistic. after a while you forget you are watching an animation film. A second positive point is the great music of John Williams. The music really gives the film something extra.
The movie starts off very nicely. The film has an adventurous atmosphere. The film can even be called a bit exciting and mysterious. As the film progresses, the film becomes more action-packed. The action scenes are actually pretty good. But at a certain point the action seems unstoppable and it all gets a bit monotonous and too busy. Action is fun, but also have an eye for the story. The adventurous and mysterious atmosphere of the beginning of the film disappears more and more during the film.
I must also admit that I find Captain Haddock a terribly annoying character. I couldn't help but laugh at the character. I like Tintin's dog and that dog also had a few nice scenes. I also think Jansen and Janssen are funny.
All in all, this is a film that started well, but the film gradually becomes too much of an action spectacle and the tension and atmosphere are lost and the film becomes monotonous at a certain point. Add to that the annoying Captain Haddock and the film is partially ruined. Good enough, but this movie could have been better.
3 stars for this movie.

Saw this film at the time and was impressed how visually this is made. And now a few years later it still looks good.

Very nice adventure film in animation form by Spielberg. The Adventures of Tintin is perhaps his most entertaining film post-2000, and is even somewhat characterized by Spielberg's adventurous and brash '80s magic. It definitely felt like a movie he had fun making; that feeling was gone. The animation of the environments and adventure events is bizarrely well done. The characters' faces look a little less good, but it's still admirable how faithful and close Spielberg has stayed with the source material. I'm only superficially familiar with Tintin's comics, but the characters, and how they look and behave, is all spot on. The same goes for the adventurous atmosphere; Spielberg has perfectly transferred the essence of the comics to the visual medium. The first half hour is a bit less, but from the moment Haddock is introduced (great voice work by Andy Serkis!), the film moves from one spectacular setpiece to another, and as a viewer you come to the most moments are too short. Especially that long chase scene in Bagghar is a feast for the eyes; what a spectacle, what a color, what a detail. The ending is a bit disappointing compared to that, but that didn't affect my viewing pleasure at all.
In any case, unadulterated entertainment, especially in the long middle section. It would be very nice if that planned sequel finally comes, although it doesn't look too rosy for the time being. 3.5*.
