Two complicated stories in this film. One is about the hormone mafia and the other is about a revenge from the past. And those stories run in sync with each other and eventually come together. As a viewer, however, you spend most of the film figuring out what you're watching. Who is who, what is his role and in which story are you now? And that really distracts from the movie. It all becomes somewhat clear at the end of the film, but that is too late for me to save the film. Even though there were enough ingredients for an impressive film. Maybe if I see him a second time, I'll appreciate him more, but I doubt it.

Loaded and penetrating Belgian drama film about the life of beef farmer Jacky Vanmarsenille. Cinematography: dark (often 'too' with almost black screen), dark, appropriate to the subject. Music: classical, exciting and often melancholy. Mise-en-Scѐne: Agricultural setting with Belgian white-blue, farm, yard, countryside and a shocking scene of child abuse. In addition, the garage, trotting track, disco and Eva's apartment. Cast: Matthias Schoenaerts plays the lead role of Jacky Vanmarsenille with verve. Despite his physical appearance mi 'less is better'. The other roles are also played realistically. Concerning Bruno I think: fate punishes......
Plot: film is about a beef farmer and abuse of growth hormones in livestock farming. Jacky's life gradually comes to the fore. His trauma becomes clear through flashbacks. Unfortunately, I can attest that the substance abuse is realistic. There are huge amounts of money going around in the beef industry and there are always shoulders that are not strong enough to carry the wealth. You feel that it cannot end well and the film is heading for a jet black end, which is played painfully well.....
