While staying with his master in a remote village, Yosaku comes into contact with a ghost. The ghost kills Yosaku's master but lets him live. Yosaku returns to his native village and takes on the task of his late master, but not everyone is happy about this.

Strange that this turns out to be completely unknown.
Not a bad Japanese ghost story, though. Typical of films like this is that they often focus more on drama than horror, which can sometimes make them a bit dull. Fortunately, it never stays that way for long, given the extremely short running time.
Visually beautiful at times, but such a shame about the faded colors and jerky camerawork. It kind of spoils the grandeur of some shots.
The scenes with the ghost are by far the most beautiful. Very enjoyable and atmospheric. The middle section is mindless and somewhat less captivating, only to revive itself at the end, as is tradition.
Ultimately, not a bad ghost story, though it's a shame about the somewhat less engaging drama, the somewhat clumsy camerawork, and the negligible soundtrack. But otherwise, nothing to complain about at all.
