Because of manipulations on 'Wall Street' by the corrupt stockbroker John Mathews, Ray Jardin has found himself in serious financial trouble. Mathews has acted very cold-blooded, since his daughter Marian is engaged to Jardin's son Walter. When Walter disappears without a trace, Mathews asks private detective Ellery Queen to track down Walter. Shortly after, a key witness is murdered, requiring much of Ellery Queen's skills to solve both the missing person's case and a murder.
