Seen after seeing TGTBATU so many times. And therein lies the biggest problem.
That aforementioned Leone classic is in my opinion one of the best movies of all time. Everything is just a little less with this one. The music, the bad guy, locations, but also the action.
The acting is still good. But the lack of Tuco is just great. But also coming back to the music, which I liked a few times better with the Good the Bad and the Ugly.
If I'd seen this one before the other one, I might have liked it better. But no, I saw the other one before. And so everything is actually just a little less. Needless to say, this is still a very good film.
Still fine, but just less than il Buono,il Brutto, il Cattivo.

It's nice to see the Dollars trilogy back to back. Each film shows how Leone perfects his style, with The Good the Bad and the Ugly as the climax, followed by the equally beautiful, but completely different Once upon an time in the West.
In For a few Dollars more Leone already shows himself to be a true master of the image. In terms of framing, this film is fantastic. Each scene contains shots that can be compared in composition to the perfect alignment of Renaissance paintings.
Entire gangs in a row, several people in a duel, an interplay between foreground and background... Leone knows how to surprise time and again with his visually brutal and powerful style.
His strong color palette in particular caught my eye more often: in the hat shoot, for example, the foreground is orange, while the background in each shot is complementary blue. Particularly strong.
The film contains countless scenes that are so strongly portrayed that they are immediately imprinted in your memory: the robbers counting the steps of the guards, the shootings at each other's 'hat'/ ;head'. Not to mention the epic duels supported by the timeless music of Morricone, who can show much more diversity in this film than in the previous film. The game box in particular is of course legendary.
A strong western. Not as iconic as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but definitely worth multiple viewings.

Strong spaghetti western by Sergio Leone. On the same level as 'The Good, the bad and the ugly'. Ennio Morricone's music is good, but for me it doesn't reach the level of some other Leone films. Acting is good. Sometimes over-acted but that's more of a time-culture thing than a flaw of the film. Sometimes the film made some illogical steps for me (which shouldn't have been necessary given the running time), but otherwise there is not much to criticize. Especially viewed after a visit from Oasys Minihollywood in Tabernas (Spain) where this movie was shot. Nice to see in the film where you yourself walked a few weeks ago. For me, Once upon a time in the west' remains Leone's best film, but if you're into the genre, you won't be disappointed.
