On the run from the police over a false charge of murder, the intrepid Johnny Blake finds work in the oil fields of Ian 'Hap' O'Connor along the way. The friendly Hap is under time pressure to extract oil so he can use everyone. It doesn't take long for Johnny to fall in love with Hap's attractive yet bitter girlfriend Linda Chalmers. Johnny's relationship with his employer and now rival Hap is further strained when time constraints cause an accident and an oil well catches fire.
