Moss Rose plot

In London, the entertainer Belle Adair can barely make ends meet. She therefore decides to use her charms to seduce a rich bachelor. When her roommate is murdered, Belle is the prime suspect. Belle suspects that wealthy Michael Drego, with whom her roommate had a date, is the killer. Belle investigates and accepts an invitation from Michael to dine at his mother Lady Margaret Drego's estate. Belle discovers that Michael has a new girlfriend: Audrey Ashton. When Audrey later dies under suspicious circumstances, Scotland Yard Inspector R. Clinner is assigned to investigate the murder case. Clinner immediately offers Belle protection when she suspects she is the next victim.

A charming and beautifully acted whodunit, but not entirely believable. Why would the innocent Michael Drego agree to Rose's request? She doesn't want money, that's all. Taking a pretty London theater girl to the estate where his fiancée awaits, accompanied by his strict mother... It's asking for trouble. And even more so if he suspects his mother has a hand in Daisy's death... And why is the door to Michael's room unlocked, if Mother Drego absolutely doesn't want any onlookers there?
The transition from the London fog to the sunshine on the estate is beautifully done. And from there, that dark house in... An unusual role for Vincent Price, beautiful to watch. All in all, a pleasantly satisfactory score for this atmospheric tale.
