Paris, 1899: The young writer Christian travels to Montmartre and befriends some Bohemian artists, who live a lifestyle of freedom, truth, beauty and love. That... was not too bad. In the sense of: I had expected little or nothing from this film and in any case just hoped for a good cast and vocals. And yes, those two things were still quite right. McGregor who can still sing quite well, Kidman who was clearly at the peak of her career, Broadbent is very charming and Roxburgh was fantastically over the top.
I have one thing to say: this film was exceptionally hyperactive. As if the entire cast and director had been on a number of stimulants and then just started filming haphazardly. It's charming at times, but there were so many moments that I really longed for the more subtle approach of a Schumacher (Phantom Of The Opera) to gather some peace and rediscover some nuance. Especially in a scene like where Kidman's character is confused about McGregor's intentions, the whole thing is just exhausting to watch.
The story is negligible and the more I heard the word 'love' come up, the more exhausting it became. Then again pay attention to the splendor of colors and the singing and acting, which made it all easy to sit out. The choice of music wasn't really my thing, but it didn't annoy me too much since all the songs clearly fulfilled their role. All in all, Moulin Rouge is a pretty entertaining film that reminds me of the Mamma Mia! and Grease hangover.

What a spectacle! Moulin Rouge is over two hours of over the top entertainment with beautiful and colorful sets, nice actors, a nice story and of course many cathcy music numbers. From the somewhat messy start, the film takes you on a hallucinatory and exciting trip that does not really slow down for a moment.
The love story between Satine and Christian is full of sadness and doom, but the strongest point of the film was the portrayal of the blossoming love between these two. McGregor and Kidman are very strong and can say so much with just a facial expression. There is also a lot of humor in the film and especially in terms of physical humor there are some great scenes in it. But it is a musical and luckily the music is perfectly chosen and you are soon singing along. Not all of them are successful, but it is certainly entertaining. Moulin Rouge is a raging roller coaster that never stops. Delicious.

Despite the fact that I don't like musicals at all, this film (at times) made an impression. He didn't in the beginning. Although the opening was good, I was annoyed by the over the top theatricality with Kidman in the lead role. However, from her duet with McGregor, a great scene, the movie got more interesting. Kidman had shaken off her exaggerated theatricality. The ending was nice too. However, the film makes the most impression with the sets and editing.
