Lunana plot
"Find what you seek in a place you never expected"
Ugyen is a young teacher in modern Bhutan. He fulfills his duties while planning to go to Australia and become a singer there. As a rebuke, his superiors send him to the most remote school in the world, in an icy Himalayan village called Lunana. He is banished from his westernized comfort after an arduous eight-day trek to get there. There he finds no electricity, no textbooks and not even a blackboard. Though poor, the villagers warmly welcome their new teacher, but he faces the arduous task of teaching the village children without any resources.

To fulfill his social service obligation, Ugyen Dorji [Sherab Dorji] travels with fresh reluctance to Lunana, where he has to teach in the most remote school in Bhutan. With the help of Michen [Ugyne Norbu Lhendup] and Singye [Thsering Dorji] he reaches his destination after a multi-day journey on foot, where he is warmly welcomed. Yet Ugyen does not really see what he can do for this isolated community. His acquaintance with Saldon [Kelden Lhamo Gurung], a young woman with a beautiful singing voice, changes that. Beautifully filmed on location and generally well acted, but extremely well-behaved and predictable.

As Bbarbie rightly pointed out, a film similar to No one less, the Chinese film by Yimou Zhang. This is a very nice film in which a teacher is sent to an inhospitable village of about 50 inhabitants in the Bhutanese Himalayas. Well, I thought it still looked very green at 3 and 4 km.
Very much enjoyed this disarming film with some nice events such as the singing lessons with the children and the mascot Norbu, the yak. Also nice how Ugyen blossoms as a teacher and as a person, although he has never put away his dream to make it in Australia.
Highly recommended for those who enjoy world cinema.

Feel-good and also heart-warming film about a part of the world that is diametrically opposed to the busy Western existence.
The sober story is just as sober and just as neatly presented and you can also enjoy the sublime landscape.
"Not one less", still one of my favorite films, appealed to me more, but still beautiful in itself.
