I think I've seen it before. However, I didn't remember any of it at all. In the time I was looking for all Jim Carrey movies I couldn't find him anywhere. Now, several years after that 'mission', I came across the film after all.

I didn't have high expectations. I took into account that we are dealing with an Eastwood comedy and they don't seem to have such a good reputation (although I haven't seen any of the 'monkey movies' myself). I think Clint is a strong director and actor. To be honest, I found him a bit awkward at times. You can see him trying to be funny every now and then, but it only works intermittently. The only thing that actually made me laugh several times was how wrong this movie actually is. The 80's atmosphere is exhaled for 120 minutes and to be honest I have a soft spot for that. They are often fun movies. The same goes for the music from that time. So the soundtrack could also appeal to me in that respect.

Of course there is a lot to note. Bernadette Peters is mediocre. The villains are laughably bad and unbelievable. We've seen better Eastwood itself, to say the least. The playing time is just a bit too long. The story has little to do with it. But… all this didn't bother me very much. The popcorn factor is quite high. It definitely looks good.

You don't have to do it for Jim Carrey. His cameo is only nice because he had such a big influence on my film love (or rather: I was a big fan of his). For both a better Clint Eastwood and a better Carrey and a better work by director Buddy van Horn, you better tune in to The Dead Pool. I personally don't think Pink Cadillac is a bad film, but I do understand why it is regarded that way. In terms of content it is not much, but in terms of atmosphere and entertainment it offered exactly what I needed.

3*

Fairly simplistic but pleasant looking Eastwood film. Okay, he's got better ones

made, and his westerns are the best. In those two comedies of him with that orangutan,

he goes into the fog. Eastwood unworthy. This one can handle it.

Any way the wind blows

And perhaps all has been said with that. Somewhere in the meantime, between scrambling for a role, and absolute star status - although you can also think that this film is twenty years too late for that. Or maybe it's simply that someone like Clint can make a mistake. Is it a bad movie, erm, no, definitely not. Certainly a good part in Clint's cycle about the US, although that is certainly unintentional. Still, we would understand anything about that crazy country without the anti-heroes that Clint has created over the years, and especially in the less high-flying films like this one. There's so much more to the US than just Dirty Harry, that's what this movie is about as far as I'm concerned, and Clint deserves credit for keeping his eyes open - still, I think.

Nevertheless, this isn't really one of his better films - in fact, there's a lot to be said for calling this one of his worst. Apart from the scenes in which he wears his gold jacket, there is really little to it, Bernadette Peters is by far insufficient as an eye-catcher or love interest, the bad guys get too little chance to do their thing, and Jim Carrey is annoying instead of funny . And perhaps worst of all, the pink Cadillac is a bit on the pale side, it just really doesn't come out. But hey, if you're Eastwood, then insufficient is still more than average.
