Somewhat tame for a thoroughbred giallo, but quite entertaining overall. There's another lame running gag about the inspector's coffee, a rather long court document and we only get 3 possible perpetrators (in a full-blooded giallo, the entire cast should be suspect).

Yes the killer wears leather gloves, yes old men are trolling young girls and yes the end came as a surprise.

The Bloodstained Butterfly is a fine Giallo from the heyday of the Italian sub-genre. The film tells the story of a French student who is murdered in the park. All traces lead to a television sports presenter. But then the murders continue...

As soon as the sounds of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto 1 blared from the boxing, I was already converted. Wonderful atmosphere in this Giallo. The cinematography was - as befits a Giallo - excellent. Especially nice how the many investigative methods of the police were portrayed and you don't often see a court scene in a Giallo.

All in all, well executed, although I didn't find the story very special in the end. Entertaining movie.

An excellent giallo in which the emphasis is more on the mystery than on the horror moments. As is often the case in these types of films, it is a waste of effort to look for pleasant characters. Although Wendy D'Olive's character comes closest in her innocence. Each character has his or her egocentric and carefully hidden motivations. That also makes it interesting. The relationships between the characters are of a deeply dark nature in terms of sexual desire. Perhaps not intentional, but the mother's reaction to her lover who wants to make out with her underage daughter is quite shocking: she is angry out of a kind of jealousy but not out of concern for her child. An example of the dark atmosphere in which the film is bathed and the denouement does not make it any better. The scene in the abandoned warehouse reminded me of a duel in a western, let's say a Sergio Leone western because we are working on Italian film. When you read the bio of director Duccio Tessari, it turns out to be a very conscious nod because he had a past in the western genre, including a collaboration with Leone.

Good acting and there is the presence of cult actor Helmut Berger. Gianni Ferrio's music is top notch with a seamless transition from Tchaikovsky to more funky own compositions.

We have a very successful - albeit cold - total package here.
