Skorbnoye Beschuvstviye plot
Based on George Bernard Shaw's play 'Heartbreak House'. The title of this play is a metaphor for the wealthy, culture-loving and bored upper class in England, who blame Shaw with her nationalistic games for the outbreak of the First World War. This civilian life is depicted by Sokurov in a villa where a bizarre group comes together. Sokurov's very curious display of characters, their mutual relationships and actions is regularly interrupted by archive recordings from the First World War and a zeppelin.
