Ricochet plot
"He's a cop accused of murder. And the only man who knows he's innocent is the killer who framed him."
Nick Styles chases criminal Earl Talbot Blake at a carnival. When he humiliates the criminal, he ends up in prison and the responsible officer is at the beginning of his successful career. The criminal manages to escape and wants revenge. He will do this by humiliating Nick and ruining his career.

I think this is a top cast. Washington, Lithgow and Ice-T were all astonishingly good. And the chemistry together was just right. This combination made the film even more exciting.
The story itself started out pretty standard. But from the point that Earl puts his plan into action to make Nick's life miserable, I started to find it interesting. I had expected that he would do everything in his power to kill Styles and murder his family. As you often see in these kinds of movies.
Very interesting to see that he gets a few chances to do something about the sight of Nick and Nick himself but that he chooses to slowly but surely destroy Styles' life. It all went a little more subtle than I expected.
The ending, on the other hand, was a dime a dozen. Very sad. Still, this is definitely a good action movie to watch.

Typical.
Denzel Washington at the start of a glorious career plays in a somewhat ridiculous film a cop who starts his glorious career in a somewhat ridiculous scene. He plays his part eagerly and with abandon, from the moment in his underpants to his manic appearance on top of the world. Slightly exaggerated, but like Styles, I'd rather have too much than too little to ensure success.
The real star is of course Lithgow, who as Earl Talbott Blake not only portrays the characteristic psychopath as only he can, in the scene where he acts as electrician, we see him already giving a modest taste of the virtuous mask that he can use effortlessly - and which only makes him more dangerous as a psycho. His younger years also provide an atmospheric action scene, when in prison, taped in books, he cleaves his Aryan fellow inmate with a sword.
The whole plot is otherwise extremely predictable, somewhat easily put into action (Styles who, with his feeble attempts to convince colleagues, only underlines his own craziness more), and filled with bad supporting roles. Yet there is creativity and atmosphere in the elaboration, such as the scene in the pool, the prison break and the final confrontation with and death of Blake.
Audiovisual typical of the 90s: dry, functional and fairly colorless. A few moments of nice lighting but as usual the focus is on story and acting. Still atmospheric, largely due to Lithgow. 2.5*
