Malcolm X plot

"Scholar, convict, leader, disciple, hipster, father, hustler, minister, black man, every man."

Malcolm X (Denzel Washington) calls himself the angriest Negro in the country. Unlike Martin Luther King, as a militant black Muslim leader, he preaches the radical liberation of the black population. And so he is life-threatening and public enemy number 1. His movements are being monitored by the FBI, CIA and various other intelligence agencies. Malcolm X hates white people until he goes on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Great film about the life of Malcolm X who fights for equal rights in America. In my opinion one of the best biopics about a fascinating person that takes place in an interesting period. Largely set up, beautifully decorated, smoothly assembled and therefore compelling, so that the long playing time is not a problem. Lots of poignant moments without it becoming more sentimental. Denzel Washington plays a beautiful role.

Spike Lee puts down a rock-solid biopic with Malcolm X. Incomprehensible that Denzel Washington did not get an Oscar for this role and the statue then went to Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. Pacino had already received a statuette for previous roles (Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico).

The film is an image from America at the beginning of the last century that not only tries to imagine the figure of Malcolm X, but also to frame the whole. Spike Lee has succeeded in that. Moreover, he makes interesting enough, by portraying the set-up as a kind of gangster film. Very atmospheric. I had to enjoy the opening with Malcolm in their flashy suits and the nice dances. And later in the film the necessary tension when the protest gets louder and the atmosphere more grim.
