Steak plot
2016: the ideal of beauty has changed drastically. A new fashion is emerging: that of the face-lifts. Georges, a recently graduated boy who has already been tinkered with, gets to know a hip, wealthy gang during the summer holidays. They have all had a face-lift. George's childhood friend, Blaise, on the other hand, isn't... and he still needs some tinkering.

A funny debut from Dupieux. The film is set in some dubious dystopia, in which everyone consumes milk en masse as alcohol. Not as absurdist as his later works, although there are still many funny details incorporated into the film. However, it is Judor who brings the most joy to this farcical little thing.
Here too, Dupieux was quite enthusiastic about his soundtrack, which is not a bad thing at all as it lends many scenes an extra comic charge. In short: fun 80 minutes of entertainment. 3.0*.

Quite fun.
Clearly an early Dupieux, it is absolutely not as crazy, weird and/or absurd as his later films, but once you get past that point that shouldn't spoil the fun, there is still more than enough to enjoy.
It's mainly some smaller details here that add to the fun. The crazy habits of the group our two outcasts want to belong to, the somewhat crazy conversations, the look of two with their head bandages on. So enough joking.
Furthermore, Dupieux's use of music is again striking, it is just a shame that many ideas are somewhat isolated and that the film as a whole lacks some finishing. Fortunately, it doesn't last too long and the film manages to divide the fun neatly over the entire running time.
Nice film, but not as good as Dupieux's later work.

Indeed not Dupieux's best, but still very entertaining. I didn't understand everything about the film because I had to do it in French and without subtitles, but I did understand the general outline. Less absurd than some of his other films, but still crazy enough to be entertaining.
Quirky too, where alcohol is replaced by milk and I still had to laugh when a bottle of Magnum was ordered. Cigarettes were again out of the question. To fit in in this crazy world, it was "in" to undergo a facelift. Some walk around like half a mummy and our friend Chuck is no less. Does he also walk around with a mummy head with only 1 open eye...
So fun, silly entertainment. Nice to pick up, but as said, feel free to put on another Dupieux if this one doesn't scare you.
